It can be tough deciding which type
of fitting will provide enough light whilst still being aesthetically pleasing.
Exterior lighting can be simple, heritage, modern, coastal or industrial. There
is a style to suit all the different types of homes out there.
Once you have decided on a style
you are happy with you will need to think about what the purpose of the light
fitting is and if it will be providing enough light for the location. Security
lighting, which sometimes comes with a sensor built in needs to be very bright
and pointing in a location where you can see as much as possible. If the light
is under a pergola where you will be eating and spending time, you will need
maximum brightness and functionality. If you just want small feature lights
around your garden to create ambiance, the brightness may not be as important
as the style. If you have chosen a style but are finding there isn’t enough
light – it is possible to change to some brighter LED globes for increased
brightness.
When purchasing outdoor lights, it
is important to consider whether or not you are in a location where rusting
could be a concern. If you are in a coastal region or somewhere that the lights
may be exposed to excess moisture you may want to consider purchasing products
made from either plastic and aluminium or 316 marine grade stainless steel. 304
stainless steel fittings are suitable in areas exterior areas where rusting is
not a concern. Check the descriptions of individual products to find out what
rating it has.
